There are way too many bands these days; A lot of them are really talented, some of them not so much. I created a new category for my music blog, “Band of The Month”, in an effort to help my followers discover new music.
Each month I become infatuated with a band. I will go through their entire catalog several times in an almost obsessive manner. The band I’m obsessed with this month is The Gaslight Anthem. Allow me to share with you why I think this band is so awesome.
The Gaslight Anthem is an American rock band from New Brunswick, New Jersey. They’ve been around sine 2006, consisting of Brian Fallon (lead vocals, guitar), Alex Rosamilia (guitar, backing vocals), Alex Levine (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Benny Horowitz (drums, percussion). They have a heavy Springsteen influence; which is not a surprise since they are both from New Jersey. They’ve also stated that Pearl Jam has been an influence for them.
Brian Fallon has a gift for storytelling; his lyrics seep into my brain and paint a picture so vivid that it feels like I am experiencing it for myself. Some say (NME) “You can still smell the engine oil and see the neon of a small-town liquor store flashing in the distance when you listen to ‘Handwritten’.”
I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing them live yet (only on YouTube); but be certain that I will as soon as the opportunity presents itself! The Gaslight Anthem make classic pop rock songs, be sure to check them out!
They currently have four studio albums released:
“Sink or Swim” (2007)- “The ’59 Sound” (2008)- “American Slang” (2010)-”Handwritten” (2012)
Songs you must download:
“The ’59 Sound”, “Keepsake”, “Handwritten”, “45″, “Here’s Looking At You, Kid”, “American Slang”, “Casanova, Baby!”, “Boxer”, “Even Cowgirls Get The Blues”, “The Queen of Lower Chelsea”.
