#10 The Kooks – “She Moves In Her Own Way”
What better way to begin the summer than with this “fun in the sun” song. Lead singer Luke Pritchard’s voice grabs me every time. I was lucky enough to see this band live from Central Park, NY recently; their live sound is clean and effortless. Head to the beach, crack open some beers under the blazing sun, and enjoy this track from The Kooks.
#9 Delta Spirit – “Time Bomb”
This quintet from San Diego, California are one of my favorite bands at the moment. “Time Bomb” is deeply moving and get’s more enjoyable with each listen.
#8 The Lumineers – “Ho Hey”
This track was deemed “song of the summer” by Amazon MP3. “Ho Hey” is catchy and fun; so much so that it was featured in a commercial for “Bing”. Each line is punctuated with alternating yelps of “Hey!” and “Ho!,” lending the song a sing-song feeling. Listen to this song once and you’ll be humming along and tapping your toes.
#7 The Echo-Friendly – “Same Mistakes”
I actually discovered this song thanks to the brilliant and hilarious HBO show “Girls”. The Echo Friendly are Shannon Esper and Jake Rabinach, their song “Same Mistakes” is “an audio impression of the kind of moods we fluctuate between, the place between action and reflection on the sources of real anguish.”
#6 The Wandas – “Thank You Note”
This song automatically makes me think of the wonderful friends in my life. Give this glossy pop gem a listen and I bet it will leave you in a good mood.
#5 The Gaslight Anthem – “Here’s Looking At You, Kid”
The Gaslight Anthem are heavily influenced by “The Boss” Bruce Springsteen, and there is nothing wrong with that. There is something extremely sincere about lead singer Brian Fallon’s lyrics, he pulls you in with his storytelling ability.
#4 Of Monsters And Men – “King and Lionheart”
Of Monsters and Men sound like the love child of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Mumford and Sons, The XX, and Arcade Fire. This track, off of their debut album “My Head Is An Animal”, is currently a favorite of mine.
#3 GroupLove – “Love Will Save Your Soul”
Truth is I could have chosen any song from their album “Never Trust A Happy Song”; it was one of my favorite albums from 2011. This song has currently been on heavy rotation. If you ever get the chance to see these guys live, make sure you do it; their live show is so much fun and energetic.
#2 The Head And The Heart – “Ghosts”
Throw on a pair of good headphones, close your eyes and enjoy this laid back track. I’m going to see this band preform live later this month at FireFly Music Festival; review, video and photos to comes.
#1 Vacationer – “Everyone Knows”
I discovered this band when they opened for “The Naked and Famous”; during that show I was impressed by their feel good vibe. This song in particular was my favorite from them.
